Abstract

This work is based on the analysis of “Doramar ou a odisseia”, by Itamar Vieira Júnior, with attention to the perspective adopted from the narrative focus in comparison to the short story “Mineirinho”, by Clarice Lispector. It is noted, in the Brazilian writer's production, that the protagonist's saga is submerged in the urban setting of the favela, whose space highlights the city's fissures from the border perspective, mirrored by the circuit of violence that exists. In this way, the “confines of the city” reconstitute Salvador based on the game of opposition between the “upper city” and the “lower city”, both followed by Doramar on his way to the cross, analyzed based on the contributions, above all, of Frantz Fanon (1968), when dealing with the colonist's compartmentalized city, José de Souza Martins (2019), regarding territorial limits and their redefinitions shaped by power in its constant dispute, and Sueli Carneiro (2011), in relation to social apartheid between blacks and whites in Brazil.
