Abstract

This essay aims to reflect on the work The island of mulattos, by the Mozambican writer, Sergio Raimundo. The essay is organized in two parts. In the first, we sought to understand the narrative system of the novel, such as space, time, plot, characters, and how the latter are part of space-time. In the second part, from the dialogue with some studies of Literature and, especially, of the Literature of Mozambique, we sought to think about the theme, as well as about the voices and aesthetic construction of the novel. It was concluded that regarding the themes dealt with in the work, the environmental issue and intolerance to minorities and special people stand out, among other topics. And that the knowledge communicated in the work, through various voices, is carried out with great creativity by the writer.
