Abstract

This article presents partial results of an ongoing study, which positions the Brazilian flag as an image of aesthetic dissent. This position reflects the political-social tensions and disputes prevailing in the country since the establishment of this flag as a national symbol, conditions that have worsened in recent years in Brazil. From the collection of images that visually intervene on the Brazilian national flag, we propose the writing of speculative fabulations (Haraway, 2023), a methodology used in order to mobilize critical thinking and practices in the field of design. The aim is to contribute, in this way, to an approach in design research that expands and promotes greater attention to perspectives that exist in the present time, useful both for raising awareness and responding to current challenges, and for imagining other possible futures.
