At the end of 2013 the Musée International of Carnaval and Masks, located in Binche, Belgium, held an exhibition entitled Hom(m)e Gille Hom(m) about  the most famous character of the town’s carnaval. Known as Gille, this figure summarizes in his "traditional" outfit and attitudes, much of the tension, dreams and projects of city residents. Part of the exhibition, the photographs by Olivier Desart taken in homes and private spaces of the inhabitants of the small Belgian city map an intriguing parallel between everyday intimacy and the public carnaval party that ultimately summarizes the identity of Binche. The presence in all photos of icons referring to the Gille figure establishes a connection between the "normal" day-to-day and the "madness" of the carnaval party.
