Abstract

The objective of this paper is to begin an analysis of the making of “holy branches” in Apodi (RN), emphasizing motivations which contribute to the maintenance of this elaborate craftsmanship with carnaúba straw. Its popular recognition, which is related to the beliefs of Catholic Christianity, distinguishes its production from those with utilitarian features or commercial appeal that share the carnauba as raw material.
