Abstract

This article analyzes the changes that have permeated the “ciranda” (a round or rhymed song, common in Brazil) in Pernambuco between 1960 and 1970, when the dance became popular, raising debate among intellectuals regarding its “purity” and“tradition.” In this analysis, we list some possibilities for the refusal of a historiographical production of the dance that has become “fashionable” to the society of Pernambuco.
