Abstract

This article, written by many hands, aims to recover and characterize the memory of the relationship of work, partnership and friendship that Professor Carlos Walter Porto-Gonçalves and the Pastoral Land Commission (CPT) maintained for almost 20 years. He, a militant agrarian geographer, in his mutually demanding and complementary academic work and political action, found in the CPT, a pastoral organization of solidarity with peasant movements, organizations and struggles, a privileged source of data, and she found in him a safe haven of reflection and support. In particular, this relationship had its starting point and encouragement in CEDOC - Centro de Documentação Dom Tomás Balduino, with its data on conflicts in the Brazilian countryside, collected, systematized and published since 1985. The article is memory and analysis, homage and gratitude. It consists of two sections: the first, based on testimonies from members of CEDOC, presents the main elements of that partnership; the second deals with advising the CPT's work, based on the opinions of its agents, peasant leaders and CPT events, which illustrate the professor's main contributions, commented on in the final considerations, revealing the identity and complicity of the Carlos Walter / CPT relationship and how lovingly meaningful and productive it was for both of them and beyond.
