Abstract

This article analyzes social protection for women who use psychoactive substances, with an emphasis on the Brazilian situation between 2016 and 2022. This is a theoretical and bibliographical review that examines the historical and conceptual trajectory of social protection in Brazil, focusing on women who use psychoactive substances and who need support from both the State and society, as well as the implications of the neoliberal and conservative context in force in the country on the protection provided to this segment. It is clear that the trajectory of social protection for these women is configured as a (de) protection, as it has been hindered by the cuts and dismantling of public policies and, furthermore, by the conservative nature ingrained in the structures of the Brazilian State.
