Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the current configurations of the labor market
for social workers and its consequences for the working conditions and relationships
of these professionals, with an emphasis on the state of Paraíba (Brazil). We start
from the central hypothesis that the current characteristics of the labor market have
a particular relationship with the expansion of the Social Assistance Policy (PAS) in
the country, in the early 2000s. To this end, we resort to methodological procedures
such as: bibliographical, documentary and empirical researches. We highlight that
we sought to incorporate the contributions of the dialectical historical materialist
method while carrying out the research and presenting its results. It is concluded
that the structural crisis of capital and all its societal consequences make up the most
important foundations of the new scenario posed for the profession and that will
produce important transformations in its labor market, imposing the striking feature
of precariousness.
