Abstract

This article analyzes the current cycle of capital reproduction in Brazil, called the exporting pattern of productive specialization, and the particularities of the social issue in the southern region of the state of Rio de Janeiro, based on bibliographic and documentary research, alternating between theoretical reflections and empirical data analysis. The emphasis is on the study of the super-exploitation of labor in the automobile industry and its expressions on wages and worker health, as well as the processes of worker struggle and resistance, without losing sight of the history of all patterns of capital reproduction in the region and union struggles. This study points out that economic development via the attraction of cutting-edge sectors of large international conglomerates reaffirms, on other grounds, the dependence and super-exploitation in the territory of Rio de Janeiro, further aggravating the social issue in the state.
