Abstract

The general aim of this article is to present a reflection on quilombos in Brazil as a space for the historical (re)existence of black people. This study was carried out by means of a bibliographical review, initially presenting an analysis of the invisibility of quilombos in the post-abolition period.  Subsequently, it highlights the challenges experienced after CF/88 with the legal recognition of the Remaining Quilombo Communities.   Through this study it was possible to conclude that, although there has been a constitutional breakthrough with public recognition of the existence of such communities, the slow implementation of legislation has been a challenge for the titling of quilombola territories in Brazil, and has also contributed to intensifying conflicts and attacks against these communities.
