One of the effects of citizen skepticism towards political parties and politics in general has been the urgency of developing participation mechanisms that seek to include people more in public decision-making and thus gain legitimacy and democratic support. In this sense, direct democracy has become a leitmotiv for contemporary social and political movements. For some experts, most of these citizen participation mechanisms play a fundamental role in local environments. Although it is true that on a national scale the effect becomes more noticeable, in urban spaces or in intermediate-level cities, for example, they represent one of the most immediate means for the control of governments by the population. Although the recent revocation of the mandate that took place in Mexico was of a federal nature for the President of the Republic, it is expected that it may have repercussions in the more local surroundings where power is exercised. Its implementation in urban spaces would mean a resource of the citizens of the right they have for the government of their city.
