Abstract

When catastrophes or calamities happen, it is not uncommon for us to look for answers to such events. The Bible presents a peculiar way of looking at the tragedies of life. Biblical stories understand misfortunes as punishments from God, consequences of attitudes that do not correspond to the divine will. From this point on, the individual needs to assume a penitent posture to try to appease the wrath of the divinity. To the pandemic times that we experienced between 2020 and 2021, there were many exegeses of biblical texts that provided answers and ways to overcome the moment. The Bible continues to be an important religious reference that defines rules of faith and practice for those who consider it their sacred book. There is nothing more natural than looking for answers in it to life circumstances that seem unanswerable, seeking the supernatural for the resolution of insoluble problems. This article analyzes biblical texts and contemporary exegesis that reflect the theme.
