Abstract

The rapid technological advancement, combined with an intense process of urbanization has caused serious environmental problems on the planet, especially in less developed nations or in the development stage. Environmental stressors are due primarily to the predatory exploitation of natural resources and the lack of measures to control the release of solid, liquid and gaseous.

The paper industry generates large amounts of waste, which if not treated properly can lead to serious damage to the environment. During the last decades, the Brazilian production of paper, particularly the production of recycled paper has increased dramatically, but there are notable changes in waste treatment this sector. The method that characterizes research is the case study, which is done in a factory recycled paper for sanitary purposes of Campina Grande - PB, using for data collection interviews and observations in place. The results show that the company has been giving proper treatment to their waste, in particular, that the effluents are treated in Effluent Treatment Plants - primary and secondary STPs.
