Abstract

The paper discusses the notion of  "barbarians and civilized” based on Walter Benjamin’s work on the loss of experience and of a specific narrativity related to the traditions. For Benjamin, the barbarian, driven by poverty of experience, goes ahead and starts relentlessly to build with  sparse means. The issue is exemplified making use of two movies: “Elephant” – a fictional documentary on the American youth – and “Fala Tu”- a documentary on Brazilian Hip Hop movement. It shows how the forms of resistance to domination can follow  deadly or  vital paths, as well as it signals to forms of thinking and doing clinics with this sense of vitality.

Key-words: Barbarian and civilized; experience; Walter Benjamin; Sigmund Freud; Peter P. Pélbart; Deleuze and Guattari.
