Abstract

Mining activity is unquestionably necessary for the development of societies in their various productive sectors and has been, over the years, one of the pillars of economic and political powers. However, the impacts caused by mining, associated with competition for the use and occupation of land, generate social and environmental conflicts. In this sense, aimed at analyzing the social and environmental problems arising from mineral extraction with the use of explosives by the mining company Dantas Gurgel & Cia Ltda. Thus, the present study conducted an exploratory study proposing an Neighborhood Impact Study  (NIS) to diagnose the consequences of this activity to the physical, biotic and anthropic. Considering the studies it was concluded that the production molds investigated, although providing positive impacts (jobs and income, tax generation, etc..). Has fostered numerous negative social and environmental impacts, which constituted a scene of conflicts that threaten the well social welfare and health of the local environment.

Keywords: Mineral Extraction. Neighborhood impact. Socio-environmental conflicts.
