This article aims to analyze the ways in which the aestheticization processes, as defined by Josefina Ludmer in her theorizations on the literature field post-autonomous structure, influenced the reception of Donna Tartt’s first novel, The Secret History (1992). Bearing in mind the book’s still longing presence, we seek to understand how the work’s first assessment resulted in the book’s resurgence inside a social media imagistic movement named “dark academia”, understanding as well how anaesthetics forms, as stated by Susan Buck-Morss, shape The Secret History current place in literature and it illustrates a contemporary perception of a post-autonomous literary field that seeks to disguise its market guidelines.
