Ironia em dimensão argumentativa – uma crítica social em As caravanas, de Chico Buarque

This paper aims to study irony in an argumentative dimension. Therefore, it seeks to reflect on the new rhetoric of Chaïm Perelman and Lucie Olbrechts-Tyteca (1989) and its persuasive character in argumentation. To this end, the corpus of analysis will be the lyrics of the song As Caravanas by Chico Buarque de Holanda. Based on Ducrot's polyphonic theory (1987) and taking into consideration Jacqueline Authier-Revuz's study (1982), the work explains the difference between enunciator and speaker, irony as polyphony, and heterogeneous elements that constitute discourse. It is from these definitions, then, that this paper will be developed, since the notion of irony can go beyond the notion of ornament, having, equally, an argumentative character.
