O deslizamento metonímico do significante metafórico Cidade da Bahia no poema "Sobre os males da Cidade da Bahia", de Gregório de Matos Guerra: denúncia sobre o aspecto moral da cidade no século XVII

Abstract

The basic purpose of this article is to analyze the metonymic slippage of the signifier “Cidade da Bahia”, in the poem “Sobre os Males da Cidade da Bahia”, by the Bahian poet Gregório de Matos, based on the studies of the polymath of language, the Russian Roman Jakobson, on the metaphorical (similarity) and metonymic (contiguity) poles arranged in the article Two aspects of language and two types of aphasia. These poles were developed, respectively, from the associative and syntagmatic relations developed by the Genevan Ferdinand de Saussure. Considered the poet of linguistics, Jakobson's Linguistics and Poetics claims from linguistic science the right and duty to also scrutinize poetics (literature). In this poem, he shows a little of the social corruption that the capital of Bahia and the colony went through in the 17th century.
