Abstract

Understanding language as a social action, Critical Discourse Analysis aims at highlighting linguistic-discursive practices interconnected with the sociopolitical structures that support them. Following this assumption, Van Leeuwen develops (1996; 2008) the theory of representations of social actors intending to unveil the ideological foundations of discourse, as well as the relations between objects and subjects in interaction. Since the press has the power to create and maintain ideological constructions that help sustain certain power relations, it is necessary to investigate which and how participants are included and excluded, given the sociocultural context in which the discourse happens. Therefore, this article proposes a multimodal comparative analysis of the representations of the social actors in two reports on the same theme: license for the acquisition and possession of firearms.

Michelle Silva de Lima Delfino, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro

Professora de Língua Inglesa e Português para estrangeiros. Trabalha nesse campo de ensino desde 2008. Atualmente, dedica-se ao ensino da Língua Inglesa para alunos e alunas da rede pública municipal do Rio de Janeiro. Possui especialização na área de Linguística Aplicada: Inglês como língua estrangeira, cujo curso foi concluído em 2020 pela Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). No momento, está cursando sua pós-graduação strictu sensu em Letras na mesma instituição com o intuito de dar prosseguimento às pesquisas nas áreas de maior interesse: Linguística e Ensino de línguas.

Arthur Bruno Rodrigues Pedrosa, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro

É especialista em linguística aplicada ao ensino de língua inglesa pela UERJ. É bacharel e licenciado em Letras-Inglês/Literaturas de língua inglesa pela Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). Foi bolsista do Sub-projeto PIBID - Língua Inglesa: Saber Escolar e Formação Docente na educação Básica. Atualmente é professor substituto de língua inglesa no CAp-UERJ. Possui Proficiência em Língua Inglesa (ECPE - Nivel C2). É voluntário e foi bolsista de extensão do projeto CEALD - Colaboração, Estratégias de Aprendizagem e Letramento Digital: O Desafio da equidade na formação de professores de línguas.
