Despite the growing study of Joaquim Cardozo's literary production, O interior da matéria (1975) remains a work rarely explored by critics. A possible reason for such an obscure presence may lie in the fact that the princeps edition of the work, produced jointly with Roberto Burle Marx, is difficult for researchers to access, notably due to its scarce circulation and high market values caused by its artisanal configuration. The present study aims to take a step further into the process of democratizing access to the work, pointing specific paratextual aspects of the first edition, which were neglected in subsequent reissues. A critical analysis will also be made of two of the twenty poems, and two of the twenty engravings that make up the body of the work.
