A expressão de si (e de nós): uma condição humana

This article investigates authorial expression from a perspective of both the creation of literature and the analysis of writings by other authors who have walked through similar paths – creating fiction and reflecting on that creation. The argument of this text is that even a work of fiction can reveal something true of its creator, and that by writing our “truth” (that is, writing with sincerity, even if with no intent to support it on facts) as artists, we open doors to a wide range of connection. As the philosopher Hannah Arendt and the writer Jane Yolen suggest, expressing oneself is part of the human condition, and the stories we tell reflect such condition. In our shared condition of humanity, we can recognize one another through storytelling and reveal even the facts we did not yet know to be true.
