The representation of the far-right in pop culture: resentment, conspiracy theories and social media in The Boys | A representação da ultradireita na cultura pop: ressentimento, teorias da conspiração e redes sociais em The Boys
Keywords:
Far-right, Pop Culture, The BoysAbstract
The objective of this paper is to analyze the way in which contemporary far-right movements are represented in pop culture, using the TV series The Boys as a case study. It is understood that, by addressing themes such as authoritarianism, media manipulation and mobilization of passions, the series offers a rich field for understanding the construction of far-right narratives. The article begins with a theoretical contextualization of the rise of the contemporary far-right, highlighting its main characteristics and causes. It then seeks to analyze its modus operandi, addressing themes such as politics of resentment, conspiracy theories and the use of social networks to mobilize and engage supporters. It is concluded that The Boys not only serves as a metaphor for contemporary reality, but also as a useful analytical tool for understanding the discursive and emotional mechanisms mobilized by the new far-right.
