Abstract

This article aims to investigate, qualitatively and quantitatively, how the concept ideology is conceptually constructed in the presidential speeches of Jair Bolsonaro’s first year in office, in the light of Conceptual Metaphor Theory (LAKOFF; JONHSON, 1980; MUSOLFF, 2004, 2016; GOATLY, 2007; SARDINHA, 2007). For this end, Critical Metaphor Analysis and the moral models proposed by Lakoff and Johnson (1999) and Lakoff (2002) are used to understand which worldview – ideology – motivates, in political discourse, the emergence of conceptual metaphors. To conduct such an investigation, speeches given by the president of the republic made available on the Palacio do Planalto website were collected to find excerpts in which the lexical items <left>, <socialism>, <communism>, <red> and <ideology> occurred. The results show the presence of the conceptual metaphors ideology is dirt, ideology is invader, ideology is romantic pair and ideology is thief, which were motivated by the strict father moral model.

É professor da educação básica na rede privada do Rio de Janeiro. Possui mestrado em Lin- guística pela Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). Nessa mesma instituição, fez iniciação científica no grupo Discurso & Gramática. Seus interesses de pesquisa centram-se na Linguística Cognitiva em contextos de discurso, semântica cognitiva e teoria da metáfora conceptual.

É professora adjunta de Graduação e Pós-Graduação em Letras da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). Possui pós-doutorado em Estudos Linguísticos pela Universidade Fe- deral Fluminense (UFF) e pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), doutorado em Linguística pela Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC) e mestrado em Letras pela Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF). Seus interesses de pesquisa incluem contextos de ensino de língua, lé- xico, semântica cognitiva e teoria da metáfora conceptual sob as lentes da Linguística Cognitiva.
