We intend to describe, in this paper, some discursive mechanisms used in framing the unfavorable economic situation. For this, we show, from excerpts of texts, that the lexical choice of terms as “crisis”, “arrocho” and “recession”, as well as metaphoric mappings, restricts the way one conceives the economic situation. Concerning the theoretical basis that subsidises this article, we focus discussions around the notions of frame (DUQUE, 2015, 2017); situated metaphor and metaphoric niche (VEREZA, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016). Regarding the methodological aspects, we adopted, as analytical tool, the analysis model of frames (DUQUE, 2015), and we used as corpus news, reports and interviews about economy in their online versions. We intend to demonstrate, finally, that mechanisms as frames and metaphors present, beyond its cognitive nature, a potentially discursive character.
