Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • 1. As contribuições submetidas à Revista KITANDA devem ser originais e inéditas, não podendo estar simultaneamente em avaliação por outro periódico. Caso contrário, a situação deverá ser informada no campo “Observações ao Editor”.
  • 2. Contribuições previamente apresentadas em eventos nacionais ou internacionais poderão ser submetidas à revista, desde que apresentem revisão substancial do conteúdo, adequação à política editorial da revista e conformidade com as diretrizes de ética e integridade acadêmica. Nesses casos, a publicação anterior deverá ser informada em nota de rodapé, com indicação do evento e da forma de divulgação do trabalho.
  • 3. As submissões podem ser apresentadas em português, espanhol ou inglês.
  • 4. Indicação de responsabilidade: para garantir a avaliação em sistema duplo-cego (blind review), qualquer identificação de autoria deve ser removida do corpo do texto, das imagens, das notas e das propriedades do arquivo submetido. Os dados de autoria serão informados exclusivamente nos campos de cadastro da plataforma de submissão. O nome de cada autor deve ser inserido de forma completa, sem abreviações.
  • 5. O texto segue os padrões de estilo e requisitos bibliográficos descritos em Diretrizes para Autores, na página Sobre a Revista.

Author Guidelines

Condições Gerais

  1. Título, resumo (entre 250 e 500 palavras) e palavras-chave (mínimo de 3 e máximo de 5, representativas do conteúdo do trabalho) devem ser apresentados em formato bilíngue, obrigatoriamente em português e em inglês ou espanhol.
  2. Formatação: o texto deve seguir as especificações gráficas e editoriais definidas nos templates da Revista KITANDA.
  3. Referências e citações: o texto e as referências bibliográficas devem seguir as normas ABNT vigentes, especialmente a NBR 6023/2018 – Referências e a NBR 10520/2023 – Citações.
  4. Ilustrações: figuras, gráficos, fotografias, desenhos, mapas e demais elementos visuais devem ser identificados como FIGURAS, apresentados em numeração sequencial e inseridos no corpo do texto em posição próxima à sua menção. As figuras devem ser centralizadas e acompanhadas de legenda, créditos e indicação de fonte/autoria.
  5. O uso de ferramentas de inteligência artificial deve observar princípios de ética acadêmica, transparência e responsabilidade autoral. Caso utilizadas na elaboração parcial do texto, as ferramentas deverão ser explicitamente identificadas em nota de rodapé, com indicação da plataforma utilizada, data de acesso e descrição do procedimento adotado.

The Guest Authors section brings together contributions by researchers and professionals invited by the journal’s editorial board, in recognition of the relevance of their trajectories and productions to the fields of architecture, urbanism, and their interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary intersections.

Texts are selected through editorial curatorship and are not subject to peer review. The section seeks to expand critical debate through the incorporation of qualified perspectives and outstanding contributions relevant to the journal’s scope.

Articles

The Articles section publishes original scientific works that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the fields of architecture, urbanism, and their intersections with other areas of knowledge, from interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary perspectives.

Submissions must demonstrate theoretical and methodological consistency, argumentative clarity, and articulation between conceptual framework, problematization, and analysis. The journal accepts theoretical, empirical, experimental, and design-based studies, provided they present academic relevance and critical contribution to the field.

All submissions are peer-reviewed under a double-blind review process, according to criteria of academic quality, relevance, originality, and scientific consistency.

Article structure

Articles submitted to Revista KITANDA must be original and prepared according to the journal template.

Submissions must contain: title; abstract and keywords; introduction; methodology; article development; conclusions; references; illustrations, tables, or graphs, when applicable.

Title, abstract, and keywords must be presented bilingually, in English and in either Portuguese or Spanish.

Articles must contain between 10 and 30 pages, including references, figures, tables, and other visual elements.

Submissions must follow current ABNT standards for citations and references.

Manuscripts must be submitted in editable format (doc or .docx), without author identification in the text body, images, or file properties, ensuring the integrity of the double-blind peer review process.

Images, graphs, and other visual elements must present adequate quality for publication and include authorship and source information.

Research involving human subjects must provide Ethics Committee approval information when applicable.

Essays

The Essays section brings together reflective, critical, and authorial texts that explore themes related to architecture, urbanism, and their interfaces with other fields of knowledge, from interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary perspectives.

With a flexible structure and stylistic openness, the essays emphasize interpretative dimensions and conceptual elaboration, welcoming approaches that challenge established categories and articulate experiences, theoretical references, and situated readings of the contemporary world.

This section welcomes both academic essays and more authorial or experimental texts that articulate critical reflection, experience, and the production of meaning regarding contemporary space.

Essay Structure

Essays submitted to Revista KITANDA must be original and prepared according to the journal template.

The textual structure is flexible and may assume different forms of argumentative, narrative, visual, or experimental organization, provided that it demonstrates internal coherence, conceptual clarity, and critical consistency.

Submissions must contain: title; abstract and keywords; essay development; references, when applicable; images, illustrations, tables, or other visual elements, when applicable.

Title, abstract, and keywords must be presented bilingually, in Portuguese and in either English or Spanish.

This section welcomes visual essays, exhibition records, urban interventions, artistic practices, cartographies, and other hybrid formats that articulate image, text, and territory, valuing interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches.

Submissions may present both exhibition outcomes and processes of conception, assembly, and investigation, highlighting ways of seeing, representing, and producing contemporary space.

Contributions to this section are evaluated editorially according to criteria of pertinence, consistency, and relevance to the journal’s scope.

Submission Structure

Submissions to the Exhibitions section must be original and prepared according to the journal template.

The textual, visual, and narrative organization is flexible and may assume exhibition-based, essayistic, cartographic, diagrammatic, or experimental formats, provided that it maintains internal coherence, visual quality, and conceptual clarity.

Submissions must contain: title; abstract and keywords, when applicable; visual and/or textual development; image captions and credits; bibliographic references, when applicable.

Title, abstract, and keywords must be presented bilingually, in Portuguese and in either English or Spanish.

Projetos

This section welcomes projects developed in academic, professional, or experimental contexts, understanding design as a device for investigation, reflection, and critical elaboration on contemporary space.

Submissions may assume different formats and scales, including architectural and urban projects, intervention proposals, rehabilitation and activation of spaces, cartographies, territorial studies, and project-based experimentations, articulating graphic representation, conceptual construction, and critical analysis.

The section values the explicit presentation of processes of conception, investigation, and project elaboration, considering design as a critical field of experimentation, interpretation, and transformation of contemporary space.

Contributions to this section may be evaluated through peer review or editorial curatorship, depending on the nature of the submission, according to criteria of consistency, relevance, and project quality.

Submission Structure

Submissions must be original and prepared according to the journal template.

The textual, visual, and narrative organization is flexible and may assume project-based, cartographic, diagrammatic, process-oriented, or experimental formats, provided that it maintains internal coherence, conceptual clarity, and graphic quality.

The Interviews section brings together dialogues with researchers, professionals, and agents working in the fields of architecture and urbanism, in connection with practices and forms of knowledge that intersect the production and experience of space. The section seeks to highlight trajectories, critical positions, and processes of knowledge production and intervention in the contemporary territory.

Texts may assume direct or edited interview formats and must demonstrate thematic relevance, clarity in the dialogue, and editorial consistency.

Contributions to this section are not subject to peer review, and publication is defined according to editorial criteria.

Submission Structure

Interviews submitted to Revista KITANDA must be original and prepared according to the journal template.

Texts may assume direct or edited interview formats, preserving clarity in the dialogue, thematic coherence, and editorial consistency.

Submissions must contain: title; identification of interviewer(s) and interviewee(s); presentation or contextualization of the interview, when applicable; interview development; bibliographic references, when applicable; image captions and credits, when applicable.

Title, abstract, and keywords, when used, must be presented bilingually, in Portuguese and in either English or Spanish.

Submissions must contain between 5 and 20 pages, depending on the specificity of the interview.

Resenhas

The Reviews section gathers critical texts dedicated to the analysis of books, exhibitions, films, projects, events, works, publications, and other productions relevant to the fields of architecture, urbanism, and their interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary intersections.

Reviews must present an analytical approach and critical positioning, articulating contextualization, conceptual reflection, and contributions to contemporary debates related to space, culture, and territory.

The section welcomes both academic reviews and essayistic or critical texts, provided they demonstrate argumentative consistency, textual clarity, and editorial relevance.

Submission Structure

Submissions to the Reviews section must be original and prepared according to the journal template.

Texts must contain: identification of the reviewed work or object; review development; bibliographic references, when applicable; image captions and credits, when pertinent.

Title and identification of the reviewed work must be presented bilingually, in Portuguese and in either English or Spanish.

Submissions must contain between 3 and 10 pages, depending on the nature of the proposal.

Files must be submitted in editable format (.doc or .docx), accompanied by images in adequate resolution for digital publication.

Traduções

The Translations section gathers unpublished Portuguese versions of texts relevant to the fields of architecture, urbanism, and their interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary intersections, contributing to the critical circulation of ideas, debates, and contemporary and historical theoretical references.

The section welcomes translations of articles, essays, lectures, interviews, manifestos, chapters, curatorial documents, and other materials of recognized intellectual, academic, or cultural relevance.

Translations must preserve conceptual consistency, textual clarity, and critical fidelity to the original text and may be accompanied by an introduction, contextual note, or presentation, when applicable.

Submission Structure

Submissions to the Translations section must be original and prepared according to the journal template.

Texts must contain: title of the translated text; complete reference of the original publication; identification of the translator(s); translated text; bibliographic references, when applicable; image captions and credits, when pertinent.

Submissions must include formal authorization for translation and publication whenever required by copyright holders.

Title and reference of the original text must be presented bilingually, in Portuguese and in either English or Spanish.

Submissions must contain between 5 and 30 pages, depending on the nature of the proposal.

Files must be submitted in editable format (.doc or .docx), accompanied by images in adequate resolution for digital publication.

Translations must demonstrate thematic relevance, conceptual consistency, and editorial quality compatible with the journal’s scope.
