Ubuntu and Racial Justice:
A Bioethical Perspective for Medical Education

This text is based on an excerpt from the doctoral thesis “The role of habitus medicus in teaching work in racial times: Ubuntu as an ethical tonic”, developed within the scope of the Postgraduate Program in Bioethics at the Fluminense Federal University (UFF), which One of the specific objectives was to highlight the attributions of the ubuntu philosophy as an ethical tonic capable of strengthening the conceptual bases of social bioethics in dealing with the issue of racial justice in medical education. The methodology adopted adheres to a qualitative approach of an exploratory and descriptive nature through semi-structured interviews whose interpretations and analyzes of the collected materials followed the teachings of Laurence Bardin Categorical Content Analysis. The results of the study indicate that the essence of ubuntu ethics exists even without being named as such.
