Abstract

The paper aims to show the works of Isaac Goldberg (1887-1938), in the United States about Brazilian literature around the period between 1910 and 1930. The objective is to present a brief summary of how each publication deals with Brazilian literature, as well as its structure, analyzing the aspects highlighted by Goldberg about Brazilian culture and literature. In the period in which this paper proposes, Goldberg wrote about Brazilian literature seven times, including articles, essays and books. His research reveals readings by local critics, placed as a reference by him, in a movement that Álvaro Lins (1912-1970) evaluates as commendable. The results obtained from this methodology place him, according to the classification of Otto Maria Carpeaux (1900-1978), as a modern literary historian.
