Migration and the far-right: debates, dynamics, discourses, ideas and perspectives in the Americas and Europe (from the late 20th century to the present)

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, migration intensified and has become a persistent topic of debate within society, generating a wealth of ideas, discourses, and intellectual discussions. For the far-right, migration serves as a favored battleground, particularly through appeals to the notion of identity. This is especially evident in light of recent migratory 'crises' such as the Venezuelan exodus, the Syrian refugee crisis of 2015, and Donald Trump's proposal to extend the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

This dossier seeks to explore the relationship between migration and the far-right, focusing on the ideas generated and their societal impact, as well as the intellectual and discursive constructions related to identity and the coexistence with migrant populations. We welcome proposals that critically examine these themes from both case study and comparative perspectives, including:

    • The ideas and discourses of the far-right regarding migration.
    • The impact of migrant populations on the emergence and spread of these ideas, as well as their influence on the electoral choices of the far-right.
    • The changes prompted by far-right ideologies in other political parties' approaches to migration issues.
    • The transfer of discourses, ideas, and practices regarding migration within the far-right.

Article proposals may be submitted in French, English, Spanish, or Portuguese.
