Abstract

Abstract: This paper presents some reflections about the lack of ‘free time’ for playing, a fact that is observed in the daily life of children belonging to the upper social class in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Those children, since a very early age, are committed to a great number of extra-school activities, designed to educate them for a competitive aduld  life in the future, or merely to keep them busy.

Keywords: childhood; time, consumption society, playing
