Abstract

Este artigo visa abordar a concepção de mestiçagem presente em Cenas da vida Amazônica (1886), esmiuçando a representação do índio no processo de mistura de imaginários e pessoas retratados por José Veríssimo.  O livro abordado percorre minuciosamente a região amazônica revelando a percepção que o autor estabeleceu perante o ambiente e os costumes dos seus habitantes.  Convém lembrar que José Veríssimo destacou-se enquanto crítico literário no final do século XIX e início do XX, tendo também desenvolvido obras etnográficas.
