Abstract

doi: 10.12957/geouerj.2016.19444

Football had different entry routes in Brazil and underwent an intense process of popularization throughout the twentieth century until becoming a national popular demonstration. The football practice mobilization capacity attracted different political interests, including the creation of the Brazilian Clubs Championship in 1971, with the intention of promoting the national integration through that sport. Therefore, the present article aims to discuss the strategic importance of the Brazilian Championship in the 1970s about the political actions for national integration.
