Abstract

This research note analyzes one of many aspects of the economic, political and administrative history of the current structural crisis in the current State of Rio de Janeiro, referring to the difficulties in supplying electricity in the former state of Guanabara and the current State of Rio de Janeiro in view of the relationship between the federal public administration, businesspeople from the then Federation of State Industries in the relationship with Canadian Light company. The research sources are interviews or statements already collected, in addition to documents deposited in the Memória da Eletricidade and the Arquivo Nacional. It is concluded that either through omission or through controversial actions by the federal government, obstacles were placed that hindered industrialization in Rio de Janeiro, such as the transfer of the São Paulo system from Light to the State of São Paulo via Eletropaulo.
