regenerative design, indigo and living systemsAbstract
This article aims to discuss the role of regenerative design through the re-signification of indigo residue as a material continuity of living systems, investigating its potential for reactivating matter in inhabited spaces. Indigo is approached as a living technology, understanding the sediment (residue) resulting from natural dyeing processes as an indicator of the system's state and as a latent material capable of revitalization. The research-through-design approach (Frayling, 1993) is adopted, articulating the experimental essay with a theoretical review of regenerative design, living systems, and traditional technologies. The article addresses design as a practice of ecological and cultural continuity, concluding that indigo residue is a regenerative element that carries a material record enabling its use as an input in the development of new paints inserted into inhabited spaces.
