Afrofuturistic design at encruzilhada

Abstract

This article seeks to establish existing connections between Afrofuturismand design. To this end, it uses the perspective of the cruzo, which understands theWestern and hegemonic ways of thinking of Western are insufficient to produce a multiple science in knowledge and conceptions, since such paradigms do notencompass other perspectives that escape their own rationality. In this sense, thearticle considers design as a practice for creating ways of being, thinking andcreating futures. Starting from the conception of racial division organized byWestern and colonialism in order to explain why some groups had their narrativessystematically erased, the article points Afrofuturism, a movement to create futures that considers black people as participants, as an antithesis of the Italian Futuristmovement and as a proposition of designing futures, since it promotes new ways ofcreating the world where previously marginalized subjects are protagonists.
