Abstract

The lecture given at the XIV Brazilian Congress on Research and Development in Design (2022) presents a critical and speculative view of the frontiers of the field of design and its relation to other cosmologies, question- ing the epistemological linearity of the field. From a series of contemporary episodes, which call into question the modern principles and practices that constituted the field of design as we have it today, the speech problematizes concepts triggered in a natural way, such as development and sustainability, and the use of tools that contemplate only the universal point of view. There is a call to think about design as a policy in the production of meanings and imagination of futures. Examples are given of how learning with traditional communities in Maranhão reconnects us with other forms of creativity and action on a planet to be regenerated.
