Masculinities in volleyball: precariousness, agency and resistance in narratives of young athletes
Keywords:
masculinities, homosexuality, narratives, poststructuralism, volleyball.Abstract
This article discusses the processes of identification and meaning of masculinities in the narrated experiences of young volleyball athletes. For this, the theories of Jacques Derrida, Judith Butler and Leonor Arfuch are mobilized for the production and problematization of narratives. The reports of two subjects who identified themselves as homosexuals pointed to the denial of sexual orientation and the regulation of their masculinity performances in the spaces of sport development. Although apprehended in a high condition of precariousness, they resisted through different agencies to the segregation processes that they experienced daily in the clubs.Downloads
