Abstract

This text is the result of ethnographic research conducted at the Museum of Anthropology and Folklore Theo Brandao, whose theme is the biography, circulation and display of objects in cultural institutions and urban space. It focuses on the transit of a giant doll called "Mom" between the museum and the carnaval of the city of Maceio/AL. The descriptions that follow are intended to reflect on how it is produced by and how it produces the social actors who gather around it. Two questions guide the research: which mediations does the giant doll Mom trigger between the world of museums and other cultural circuits in Maceió? What kinds of cultural representations are drawn upon and from it?
