Abstract

The folias are rituals of social and symbolic exchange. One of their most important features is the execution of “cantorios.” More than the utterance of verses over the basis of a harmonic and melodic music, they put into operation the coordinated movement of bodies in relation to a system of objects. In this article, I analyze the role of these performances during the ceremonial rituals performed to mark the official start of the festive events.
