Abstract

This paper presents two forms of dance theater traditionally linked to the classical and popular culture in India, the Kathakali theater, from Malabar, and Therokootu from Tamil Nadu. The origins of these dramatic forms go back to the early Christian era, although go through time as art forms that have inspired the work of many European artists, directors and choreographers in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
