THE MOCKER BODY DRAMA: THE PERFORMANCE IN THE LAMBE-SUJO FEAST OF LARANJEIRAS/SERGIPE

Abstract

In October, the city of Laranjeiras-SE, a city located 23km from Aracaju - the capital of Sergipe – there is a party called Lambe-Sujo that has in its center individuals representing both the old slaves – lambe-sujos - and the ones called caboclinhos, representatives of the Indians. During the festive day they enact a battle, in which the African descendants are defeated. The immersion of the players is fundamentally important for the development of the party. The performative expressions, such as mockery, the comic and the grotesque emerge as significant elements of the culture. This article revisits this debate through anthropological contributions about performance and the notion of social drama in the analysis of the party.
