Abstract

This paper presents the festivities sponsored by the Communist Party of Brazil (PCB) and its press between 1945 and 1958 in the city of Rio de Janeiro. During this period the PCB tried to use carnival as a component of its ideological politics. Its festivities, however, served both as a way to aggregate members and sympathizers as well as a way to support its press through fund raising.
