Abstract

The samba train is a carioca popular festival celebrated since 1996, having as initial purpose calling attention to the demands of activists in the neighborhood of Oswaldo Cruz. The growth of the party turned it into a mass phenomenon - even attracting many tourists - and reframed its meanings, although still calling attention to popular culture and the neighborhood in the suburbs.
