Abstract

This article problematizes the practices of entrudo, trying to understand the multiplicity of senses of carnival manifestations, based on travel narratives about Brazil in the nineteenth century by foreign travelers. With its curious customs and games considered inelegant, the entrudo is characterized as a multi-faceted cultural practice, around which meanings of social life were constructed and representations of the world were symbolically projected.
