Abstract

Capoeira has religiosity as one of the pillars of its social imaginary. The berimbau and atabaque lend their sacred attributes and are revered in the circle, their songs narrating stories and legends of gods and deities, which, together with Catholicism, make up a religious syncretism peculiar to the cultural manifestations of Africans and their descendants in Brazil. Thus, the purpose that guides us in this study, which carries a bibliographical aim, is to unveil the sacred aspects in the game of capoeira, hoping to contribute to the understanding of some symbolic frame that constitute this element of corporeal culture.
