Abstract

This article - which publicizes part of the study on the Selarón Staircase under the scope of the Art, Culture and Cognition research program of the post-graduation in Arts at Uerj – aims at expanding the vision of the urban imaginary of Rio de Janeiro, recognizing said intervention as an important informal milestone in the city (ready-made), and emphasizes its obvious handmade aspect. With the combination of these two dimensions, the text explores the micro-world of the artist, clarifying some of the aspects that cause the indisputable success of this unusual extensive historical and biographical bricolage located between the old neighborhoods of Lapa and Santa Teresa.
