Abstract

The article discusses some festivities of the traditional Catholicism in agricultural communities of Brazil based on material collected through semi structuralized interviews and field impressions in Amapá and Goiás; it focuses mainly the parties of Divino Espírito Santo and patron saints of these communities, bringing their development, cultural and symbolic importance to the communities who promote these festivities. Dances like the catira practiced in Goiás and the marabaixo, performed by quilombolas communities of Amapá, are highlighted. As a general result it was possible to understand that, despite modernity, these festivities endures as important cultural and social manifestations of these groups.
