Mozambique is in a process of sustainable, integrated, multisectoral and resilient urban development. The process has as main objective the equity and orientation in the balanced occupation of the territory and the rational use of its natural resources by the population and by the economic, social and political agents. This article aims to describe the process of contemporary Mozambican urbanization, taking into account its continuity and discontinuity in the provision of urban infrastructure and services. The methodological procedures consisted in the observation and collection of various bibliographical information about the process of Mozambican urbanization from the post-colonial period in 1975 to the present day. The results of the research show that the process of urban expansion is done without advance planning, provision of services and urban infrastructure. It is concluded that the socio-spatial differentiation in Mozambican cities has been deepening in a process of sociospatial fragmentation.
