Abstract

The present paper aimed to demonstrate the different times of postal circulation express in a portion of the brazilian territory, the state of Rio de Janeiro. In order to do so, the territorial performance of the Brazilian Post and Telegraph Company (ECT), the Correios, was analyzed based on one of the postal services offered by it, SEDEX (Express Parcel Service). Comparing the different deadlines available for the delivery of express postal correspondence in the municipalities of Rio de Janeiro, it was possible to identify the existence of postal “spaces of speed” and “spaces of slowness” in the state. In addition, even the capital of Rio de Janeiro presents itself, in general, as a space readily served by express postal services - especially at a time when the E-commerce modality (Electronic Commerce) is growing in the country – it was also found that the urbanization process imposes limits on the activities of the Post Office, constituting an obstacle to the operation of express postal services in numerous places within the city of Rio de Janeiro.
