The land income in Mato Grosso do Sul: an analysis from the municipality of Ponta Porã / MS

Abstract

This work aims to analyse how the land income process occurs in Mato Grosso do Sul, more specifically in the municipality of Ponta Porã / MS, since there has been an expansion of the sugarcane agro-industrial capital. The methodology used was data collection, through official agencies, as well as on-the-spot interviews, and discussions of the published literature on this subject. The research purpose is to understand, in the context of this sector expansion, the production process and the appropriation of the land income by different social classes, since, on the one hand, the surplus value is received by the capitalists and, on the other hand, the social surplus value, or the income from the land, is appropriated by the landowners. We verified that the land income comes in different ways through the sugarcane agro-industrial capital: either through the monopoly of the land by lease, or through the territorialization of this capital.
